Study feb18th
study of Frazetta's Death Dealer - trying to "steal" the things I like in his work
I especially love the flow of his pose in this piece and tried to exaggerate it in my own way.

Never just try to copy a picture/painting when you're studying. Always try to add to it, take what you like and add it to your own style.

I'm a freelance concept artist based in Bucharest, Romania. I started working in digital medium in 2011.

I started painting sci-fi environments and mechanical constructs, but lately decided to get better at characters so I'm studying anatomy real hard.

I've studied architecture and a couple of years at interior design school but I dropped out and left everything behind to follow my dream of becoming a movie/game concept artist. Those years weren't totally wasted though, I'm doing pretty good with perspective, scale and depth of field.

If you need an environment concept or any sci-fi related content, just send me a note here on DA, or drop me an e-mail with a project description at vladgvalentin@gmail.com
For a fast response please use the e-mail, it's the one I check most often.
Interests
Ok, I've noticed a bunch of guys in here that are really deserving this, so I decided I'll take every one of you at a time. So after the current apprentice becomes better and I'll hopefully guide him to the place where he can move on by himself, I'll gladly take on another.

We had a nice event today on ConceptWorld group, speedpainting for like 30 min each, you can check it out here
Hopefully this will happen every Sunday, because not only the beginners have a lot to learn, but I've learned a lot myself, I had no idea I could pull out such great ideas in so little time. Perhaps having 30 minutes at my disposal is actually blocking my mind and I can't really think anymore, like I do on the other designs, plan every single detail and stuff like that, no, I just paint. And the results are pretty good, providing you have the general idea of what you want to achieve.
Also had a chance to hear Brent Hollowell share his story, and that's great because I've been following him for some time now and I can tell you he's got some neat creature concepts.

That's it for today, cheers.
